Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) preceptor is a dynamic clinician with a passion for clinical education. The lab educator is responsible for instructing within developed student laboratory courses in the Medical Laboratory Science Hybrid Program. Candidate specialties needed include microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, urinalysis/body fluids, molecular biology or laboratory operations and management specialties, and blood bank/immunohematology.

Academic Partner: St. Louis University, Medical Lab Science program

Target Hire: Courses will begin June 2023

Onsite teaching role: Saturday/Sunday obligation, 8am-5pm

Site location: Lenexa, KS

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate effective student learning in the laboratory and online settings
  • Provide adequate guidance for students related to professionalism, practice, and research
  • Selects and organizes learning activities which facilitate the student’s attainment of the course objectives
  • Ensure effective evaluations of student practice
  • Promote evidence-based practice
  • Provide a supportive learning environment by providing feedback on student progress to supervisory personnel
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration
  • Attend all required orientation, training and faculty meetings

What You Will Have:

  • Knowledge of the medical laboratory sciences field
  • Excellent verbal communication skill with an interest in motivating and mentoring professional behaviors and attitudes in emerging MLS student learners
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to the learning needs of a variety of student learners
  • Function within the concept of a group-model for learning and integrate that model successfully into the lab environment.
  • B.S. degree in related field and MLS certified  
  • Certification as MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP)  
  • At least 3 years’ experience in practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in teaching at the bench, in a classroom and/or in a student laboratory
