Job Description


The Multimedia & Front-End Developer (MFED II) acts as part of the Product Development Team in conjunction with instructional designers and faculty subject matter experts to develop interactive, cross-browser, and mobile compatible instructional content for online courses.


Develop a Variety of Interactive Learning Objects for Online Training

  • Analyze learning object development requests and advise on technical implementation
  • Present timely delivery of completed learning objects and applications
  • Responsible for developing web-based learning objects including projects with complex technical material and design

Convert and Enhance Existing Learning Objects to HTML5/JavaScript

  • Recreate existing Flash/Flex learning objects in HTML5/JavaScript for cross-browser and mobile compatibility
  • Recreate existing Flash/Flex learning object templates in HTML5/JavaScript for cross-browser and mobile compatibility. The templates access and parse content data and application parameters from an external source (XML or JSON) and allow the creation of new learning objects by editing an external data source

Monitor and Enhance the Quality of Our Interactive Learning Objects

  • Ensure quality and consistency of learning objects
  • Monitor effectiveness and usability of learning objects and applications developed
  • Remain current with and have a thorough understanding of the latest industry technologies, tools, and trends in online education and instructional media
  • Ensure continued functionality of learning objects throughout their lifespans and browser/technology updates
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve learning objects and applications
  • Participate in special projects as required

Learning Management Systems (LMS) API and Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) Development

  • Exchange of learning object outcomes data with LMS/LTI integration
  • Enhance learning object capabilities with LMS API integration


  • Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of Object Oriented Programming, various JavaScript libraries and micro frameworks (jQuery, Angular, Node, Backbone, Electron), HTML and CSS
    • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
    • Ability to write straightforward, clean, and commented code
    • Understanding of cross-browser and mobile compatibility
    • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
    • Possess excellent time management skills in handling multiple priorities with individual deadlines
    • Adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work creatively and accurately with minimal supervision
    • Communicate continually with the project teams - Explain progress on the development effort
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of JavaScript, Angular, HTML5 & CSS development
    • Experience and aptitude for developing web-based training using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and/or other appropriate programming languages and tools
    • Strong experience developing, programming, and supporting content for learning management systems
    • Ability to implement 3rd party APIs (application programming interface) for LMS (Learning Management Systems) referencing LMS programming manuals
    • Experience with implementing, styling, and interacting with SVGs in the browser DOM
    • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
    • Experience with C#, ColdFusion, and SQL development would be beneficial
  •  Education and Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree or any combination of equivalent certifications, experience and/or education in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field
    • 3+ years of work experience in a related web development position
  • Source code and examples are required to be considered for the position.
